Marin Patenaude Confessional Folk Taps Deep Emotions on 'Sight Unseen' " American Songwriter

"This record is like a bed of moss to me - a place where all my feelings are supported by nature, and is made up of intricate players that somehow ended up in the same beautiful place together," explains singer/songwriter Marin Patenaude about her second album Sight Unseen ( pre-order/save).

Marin Patenaude Twists Canadian Folk Traditions on 'Sight Unseen'

Marin Patenaude's smooth, nuanced voice can seem high like a bird, and at the same time deep and earthy. Her second album, Sight Unseen, transports listeners to a rugged and innocent rural landscape while also conveying the feel of a small and intimate folk club.

Wonderful review from Alex Varty in The Georgia Straight!

With Marin Patenaude, Pugs & Crows cry Uncle!

Of all the audiovisual images that remain in my mind from this summer's Vancouver International Jazz Festival, one stands out: Marin Patenaude, spotlit on the Performance Works stage and singing with magnificent panache as the members of Pugs & Crows waxed uncharacteristically rockish behind her.

Summer is here, and we're beyond thrilled to share this BRAND NEW RECORD from PUGS AND CROWS. Featuring Marin Patenaude on vocals, this record is a journey of love and loss and it's like nothing you've ever heard before. Check out the calendar for upcoming shows!

“Maybe it’s Patenaude’s clear and understated voice; maybe it’s her piano’s repeating phrases, and their small variations; maybe it’s how the notes of the simple melody correspond to the emotionally evocative lyrics. Most likely it’s all those things dovetailed together. The music is a very personal and poetic blend of jazz, country, blues, and folk.”

Thanks to Tony Montague of The Georgia Straight for this lovely profile

Marin Patenaude aims to keep her music honest

Listening to Marin Patenaude sing "Tall Thin Man in a Black Cheyenne" may cause that song to become lodged deep in your mind, prone to float up into consciousness at unexpected moments. Maybe it's Patenaude's clear and understated voice; maybe it's her piano's repeating phrases, and their small variations; maybe it's how the notes of the simple melody correspond to the emotionally evocative lyrics.

Really looking forward to being in so many beautiful places with so many beautiful people this summer!!

Thanks so much to Alex Varty and the Georgia Straight for this lovely little article!

"Her music, after all, is like life itself – there is sorrow, pain and dark reflection, but at the end of the day if you can’t have fun then what’s the point?" - Mark Brennan
